NextEnergy Receives $3.6M Defense Grant

METROMODE, 2/14/08: NextEnergy is in the business of alternative energy - and they know how to sell it to a broad constituency. Environmental concerns are key, of course, but the organization cannily makes the case for homeland security as well, thus broadening support for its efforts.

Case in point: a $3.6 million grant from the Defense Logistics Agency within the U.S. Department of Defense. With this funding, NextEnergy will further the development of the Advanced Mobile Microgrid.

And what, pray tell, is an Advanced Mobile Microgrid?

It's a mobile hybrid power source than can convert energy from a multitude of sources - biofuels, vehicle batteries, solar energy - to consistent, steady power within 48 hours of deployment.

A more efficient source means less dependence on fuel and less need for infrastructure. The Microgrid has not only military applications but disaster relief ones as well.

"This program is another example of NextEnergy's strength in driving innovation, diversification and revenue growth among our key technology development stakeholders, "Jim Croce, President and CEO of NextEnergy, said in a statement. "The advanced electric power solution developed for the DoD and enabled through NextEnergy's federal procurement and program management expertise involves extensive collaboration by numerous Michigan based companies, including both entreprenuerial startups and traditional industrial suppliers."

Some local companies involved include Myron Zucker, Inc. of Sterling Heights, Southwest Research Institute in Ann Arbor, NOVI Energy in Novi, Northern Electrical Testing in Troy and Detroit's Titan Energy Development and Nextek Power.

NextEnergy credits the collaborative efforts of United States Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, and U.S. Reps. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, John Conyers, Candice Miller and John Dingell with bringing the dollars into Michigan.

Myron Zucker, Inc. Adds Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors to Product Line

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – MARCH, 2007 – Power surges are a serious problem in today’s business environment. Lost production time and the cost associated with replacing sensitive solid state circuitry and electronic equipment can impact the bottom line.

This is why Myron Zucker, Inc., a premier provider of power quality solutions including power factor correction systems and harmonic filters has expanded its product line to include Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors (TVSS). TVSS is your first line of defense for power quality.

MZI is now offering two devices for protection from high frequency transients, surges and electrical noise. The MZI-TVSS-SE is a modular surge protective device designed for placement at a facility service entrance or distribution panel. This provides initial protection from surges. The MZI-TVSS-BP is a compact surge protective device designed for placement at branch panels. This provides protection throughout the facility from let-through voltage. Myron Zucker, Inc. recommends a cascading approach to TVSS throughout the facility as the most effective means of protection. This approach ensures maximum protection from surges and high voltage spikes.

Myron Zucker, Inc. and Mesta Electronics, Inc.Collaborate on the Sales and Marketing of the Mesta Digital Power Manager

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – January, 2007 – Myron Zucker, Inc., (MZI) a manufacturer of low voltage power factor correction and harmonic mitigation products, and Mesta Electronics, Inc. (MEI) an engineer, designer and manufacturer of state of the art power conversion equipment, have joined together to advance the sales and marketing of the Mesta Digital Power Manager (DPM).  The Mesta DPM is an active harmonic filter which successfully eliminates harmonic distortion, high crest factor and high inrush, and improves power factor to near unity.

MZI and MEI see great potential in the partnership as a way to bring the Mesta state-of-the-art active harmonic filter technology to the existing markets served by MZI.  Working together, they will provide power quality solutions to a wide range of industrial markets.  MZI identifies customers with “dirty power” and provides them with several options to clean up dirty power.  Under the new collaborative relationship between MZI and MEI, the Mesta DPM may now be an option for these customers, depending on the electrical loads.  MEI’s powerful DPM is supported by a highly talented team of engineers and technicians.  MZI provides customer support, technical assistance, leasing options, and maintenance programs.

Myron Zucker, Inc. and King Commercial Leasing Partner to Offer Customers Capital Equipment Finance Options

Sterling Heights, MI – Turning a capital expense into an operating expense can make the difference in the ability to get needed capital equipment to some companies.  New financing options now offered by King Commercial, Inc. through Myron Zucker, Inc. makes the acquisition of needed power quality equipment accessible to almost any business.

Myron Zucker’s customers can visit the website:  www.myronzucker.com to estimate payments while they are still in the planning stages, in order to make an informed decision when finalizing their equipment purchase.  Brian Gremp of King Commercial said, “Many businesses are looking into leasing, because a capital expense can become an operating expense.  We can offer them options that will give them the ability to make monthly payments, on terms that they can afford.”

Donna Zobel, Myron Zucker’s president said, “We are pleased to be able to offer these financing options to our customers.  Our power factor correction systems, as with all of our power quality solutions, can begin saving companies money right away; and with a lease option, the monthly cost vs. their utility savings could provide a positive cash flow to the operation’s bottom line.  The leasing option would also allow them to use their capital funds for other projects.  This is just one more way we at Myron Zucker are working to make it easier to do business with us.”

BY CAROL CAIN
FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER

November 26, 2006

Company: Myron Zucker Inc., 36825 Metro Court, Sterling Heights.

Owners: Joanna Zobel and her daughter, Donna Zobel, both of Troy.

Its niche: "We manufacture capacitors and harmonic filters to improve power quality in manufacturing facilities," said Donna Zobel, who runs the company.

Background: The firm was founded in 1954 by Myron Zucker, who helped manufacturers save money through a process he developed called CAL (capacitor-at-load), which makes equipment function more efficiently through its capacitors.

Family matters: William Zobel, Joanna's husband, joined the firm in 1988 and ran it until he passed away in 2003.

Donna Zobel, who had been working as a manager at Pfizer, came in to run the company, originally for an interim period. She found she enjoyed the business and ended up staying.

Competition: With firms such as GE as competition, Zobel says she's been able to grow by focusing on the customer.

"Those other firms may be bigger, but when a customer wants service, they can pick up the phone and talk to a live person on the other end."
